Lincoln Circuit Clerk’s Office to host organ donor event

STANFORD – One organ donor can save eight lives – that’s the message that the Lincoln County Clerk’s Office is hoping to spread during its Donate Life event on April 18.
At 10:08 a.m. on the Lincoln County Courthouse steps, a moment of silence will be held for one minute to recognize the more than 100,000 patients waiting for a life-saving transplant – 1,000 of those people are in Kentucky.
The Lincoln County Circuit Clerk’s Office is among many in the state who will be hosting a Donate Life Flag-raising ceremony to promote the mission or organ, tissue and eye donation and to honor donors and their families.
The public can register as an organ, tissue or eye donor at DonateLifeKY.org or at any Kentucky Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. Anyone with a Kentucky Driver’s License or state ID can register as a donor regardless of age, health, gender or ethnic or racial background.
On Monday, the Lincoln County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office will raise a Donate Life flag at the Lincoln County Courthouse.
According to a press release, the Donate Life Flag was first introduced in 2006 and since then it has become a national symbol of unity, remembrance and hope, while honoring those touched by donation and transplantation.
Since 2006, 50,000 Donate Life Flags have flown across America.
In 2021, more than 500 organs were transplanted and many recipients received the gifts of life and hope with an organ transplant in 2021.
“We can all take a step to help those on the waiting list simply by registering as an organ donor,” said Lincoln Circuit Clerk Angelia Doolin. “There are no age or health requirements to register as a donor. Children and adults are waiting in all of our regions to receive their second chance at life and need us to take this step.”
A local initiative to grow the organ donor registry called Check 5 to Save Lives engages volunteers to help spread information about becoming an organ donor.
The five steps include sharing with others your commitment to organ donation, encouraging people to register as a donor, educating the community about donation and creating a fundraiser to help the statewide mission.
