The Lincoln County Board of Education voted Friday to make face coverings optional for all staff and students at Lincoln County Schools. This action will immediately go into effect.

Face coverings will still be required on school buses due to the federal mandate for public transportation. Face coverings will also still be required for students at the Lincoln and Garrard technology centers due to the state mandate.

The decision to make masks optional is due to the decline in cases in the county, the decline in the state’s COVID-19 positivity rate, and the ability for all staff and students ages 5 and up to now have access to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

Face coverings are still recommended for visitors, staff, and students while indoors but are no longer required. The district will continue to use other mitigation tools such as social distancing (when possible) and good hygiene to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
