The semi struck the Ford Edge ejecting Shelton, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, from the vehicle. According to Jessamine County Coroner Michael Hughes, Shelton’s cause of death was multiple blunt force traumas. He was pronounced dead at 1:56 p.m.

Shelton was driving with a passenger, also from Lincoln County, who took control of the vehicle and brought it to the highway’s median. The passenger was uninjured. The driver of the Ford Edge suffered injury and was taken to a nearby hospital. Her current status has not been released.

The highway had to be closed by police following the crash, but was later reopened that evening. Police are still investigating the incident.
