Malt beverages have hit some shelves in Stanford, now that a few local businesses have been approved to sell.

According to Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Administrator Barry Allen, two businesses in Stanford have been approved for malt beverage package licenses. FiveStar convenience store in Stanford was the first to obtain a malt beverage license, Allen said.

The Stanford Food Mart & Donut Shop, located at 720 Miller Street in Stanford, was next to apply for and receive a license. The store began selling malt beverages on March 10.

Allen said before a store can begin selling alcoholic beverages, or even apply for a license, it must first publish a public notice in The Interior Journal declaring the intention to apply for a license, and what kind of license the business plans to request.

“Those are the only two who have been approved by the state and approved locally – because both state and local licenses have to be approved – and right now, that’s all we have selling is those two right there,” Allen said.

The following businesses have published their intent to apply for alcohol licenses in The Interior Journal:
