A Lincoln County infant has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to the local health department.

Director Diane Miller said Tuesday the infant, who was 10 days old on April 16 when the positive case was first announced by Gov. Andy Beshear, is recuperating at home and doing well.

A 52-year-old female Lincoln County resident also tested positive for COVID-19 and has been recuperating at home, Miller said.

“Those are our two current active cases,” she said. “The 52-year-old’s quarantine ended yesterday and they are doing fine.”

Last week the first positive case of coronavirus in Lincoln County was confirmed as a 76-year-old female resident of the Stanford Care and Rehab facility tested positive. The health department announced the following day that the resident passed away.

Procedures and protocols remain in place at the Stanford Care and Rehab facility, Miller said this week.

“Still abiding by those and wearing their PPE,” she said. “They are still closely monitoring residents for any signs or symptoms.”

Miller said no new positive cases have been confirmed at the long-term care facility.

As the pandemic continues, Miller is urging the public to keep practicing the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) guidelines for social distancing and to self-quarantine if COVID-19 symptoms are present.

If a physician recommends quarantine, Miller said it’s crucial that the public listens to that advice.

“If you have those signs and symptoms related to COVID-19, and if a physician recommends that you quarantine, I strongly urge you to quarantine,” she said.

Miller reiterated the importance of washing hands and avoiding public gatherings.

“I just hope (everyone) takes it seriously and abides by those guidelines that are out there for them to protect not only themselves, but others in the community.”

The local businesses that remain open at this time are following those guidelines, Miller said.

“I’ve been to a few of the retail stores and what they’ve got in place seems to be suitable for the recommendations that are out there,” she said. “Just to remind individuals: if you do pull up to a retail store and see a crowd, come back later.”
