6th Grade Eagles win 12th Region tourney

The Lincoln County Middle School sixth-grade Eagles carried a heavy weight with them on their return home from Lexington Sunday night, hauling with them the 12th Region Tournament championship trophy.

In the tourney played at the Kentucky Basketball Commission Saturday and Sunday, the sixth-graders rolled to the title win in their division, with an average margin of victory of 20 points.

The closest game in the Eagles’ victory march came in the finals as Lincoln defeated West Jessamine 47-33. On the way to the championship game, Lincoln cruised against East Jessamine (42-12) and Southern Pulaski (43-25) in pool play, which earned the team a bye in the single-elimination tournament. Lincoln then earned its spot in the finals by beating Northern Pulaski 43-25 in the semifinal rount.

The sixth-grade Eagles, who are coached by Lewis Cummins, are now 22-7 overall and 8-2 in the Salt River Conference.

Lincoln brought home two trophies from the regional tournament, with the eighth-grade Eagles finishing as runner-up in their division. After posting wins over West Jessamine (45-37), Boyle County (47-38), McCreary County (59-41) and Southern Pulaski (61-48) to reach the championship game, the Eagles fell short in the final tilt as Northern Pulaski rolled 59-24.

The eighth-grade Eagles are led by Eric Ralston. The team is now 24-5 overall, 9-1 in the SRC.

The seventh-grade team went 1-2 in the weekend tournament, collecting its lone win, a 51-11 cakewalk over West Jessamine, in Pool Game 2 on Saturday. Northern Pulaski topped Lincoln 51-37 in Pool Game 1 and Southern Pulaski eliminated Lincoln 46-39 on Sunday.

The seventh-grade Eagles, coached by Carl-Lewis Cummins, are 15-10 overall and 6-4 in the SRC.
