Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

RICHMOND — Every Lincoln County girls basketball player hit the hardwood for hoops action at the Douglas House Athletic Center Friday night at Madison Central High School, and 10 of the 13 figured in the scoring as the Lady Patriots cruised past the host Lady Indians 64-43.

The Lady Patriots (2-3) used a 26-11 second-quarter run to break open a close game and never looked back, leading by as many as 28 points before claiming the lopsided win.

The two teams traded leads in the first quarter but Lincoln, which connected on 8 of 19 3-point attempts for the game, drained three 3’s in the opening frame to edge ahead of Central 16-14. Trinity Shearer, who led Lincoln with a game-high 17 points on 5-for-13 shooting, Lydia Rice, who pushed in 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting, and Ally Lynn all hit from behind the arc.

Shearer got the first triple with 4:43 on the clock to tie the game at 7-all. Central’s Taleya Todd and Brianna Bierbaum, who led the Lady Indians with 14 points and 12 points, respectively, answered with back-to-back buckets for Central’s largest lead, 11-7, before Rice nailed her 3. Talynne Shearer, who came off the bench to score 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting, followed with a bucket in the paint then added a free throw to make it 13-11, Lincoln. Bierbaum went long-range with under a minute to play to edge the Lady Indians ahead 14-13 only to have Lynn bomb in the final bucket of the first to put Lincoln back up 16-14.

Lincoln never trailed again.

Talynne Shearer ignited Lincoln’s 26-11 second-quarter scoring surge with the first six points of an 8-0 opening run. She started the second with a 3-pointer then followed with a three-point play. Chloe Ralston went baseline to push the Lady Pat lead to 24-14.

Shearer would finish with eight points in the second quarter while Haleigh Ellison, Ralston and Rice scored a bucket apiece. Talynne’s older sister, Trinity, would outscore Central on her own in the period, nailing four 3-pointers for 12 of her 17 points as the Lincoln lead grew to 42-25 at the half.

Lincoln, which shot 43 percent from the field overall (26-for-60), saw its point production drop in the third quarter, however, the Lady Patriots still managed to double up the Lady Indians in scoring, 12-6, with five field goals and two free throws. Central, which finished at 35 percent shooting overall (15-for-43), got just three of 13 shot attempts to fall in the third as the team fell behind 54-31.

Central (1-4) would outscore Lincoln in the fourth quarter, but the 12-10 edge would not be enough to overcome the Lady Patriots’ substantial lead.

The Lady Indians went 5-for-13 from 3-point range. At the line, they were 8-for-17. The Lady Patriots were 4-for-11 at the line.

Central got the win on the glass, outrebounding Lincoln 38-32, led by Jekauri McKeithen with a game-high 12 boards. Robbins led Lincoln with seven rebounds, Rice finished with five boards.

Lincoln had 15 assists and 16 steals with 12 turnovers. Central had 11 assists and 11 steals with 25 turnovers.
