Let us keep the Clausen family in our thoughts during this difficult time in the passing of Mildred last week. Years ago they lived on Kocher Ridge Road (Ottenheim) before moving to Crab Orchard. Mildred was a soft-spoken lady and was a very kind person.

Christmas is not very far away and Sunday, Dec. 8 to many it was a good day starting the season right. It was a beautiful sunny day at the old Lutheran Church in Ottenheim with the jolly crowd visiting and listening to the musical group from Lexington. Bro. Dan Gutenson’s talk was inspiring about peace with ourselves and others. It was something to think about during this period before Christmas. Christmas is just not for presents, it’s a time to reflect on our lives. If I don’t write another letter before Christmas, may everyone have a happy, safe one.

Remember Jimmie Dean Hayes in prayer, as she is not feeling well at this time.

Thank all of you who encourage me to write the Ottenheim news. So many say they look for it each week. Sometimes it’s hard to find something to write about.

There is a new business in Ottenheim, a saw mill. I see piles of slab waste and split wood in a lot. I can imagine the hard work of sawing and lifting the heavy timber. But someone will have a warm home this winter after being able to purchase wood.

Someone sent me the poem, ‘The Farmer.” This is the first line I thought I’d share with you. “On the eighth day God said, ‘I need a caretaker in this paradise.’ So he made a farmer!”

You’ll have a better day if you think about where you’re going instead of where you’ve been.
