STANFORD — Human skeletal remains were found in a creek bed off of Goshen Road in Stanford last Thursday, according to Kentucky State Police.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Adam Hall, of Post 7 in Richmond, confirmed Friday morning that human remains were located near the Stanford Waste Water Treatment Facility Thursday evening.

“State Police was contacted in reference to human remains that were discovered on Goshen Road in a creek bed,” Hall said.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office contacted state police around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, he said.

Following an initial investigation, police confirmed the bones were human remains.

“Our detectives were notified to respond and were out just kind of canvassing the area,” Hall said. “The remains were kind of spread out over a pretty lengthy distance, I think several hundred yards.”

The initial investigation, with the assistance of Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum, focused on canvassing the entire area, flagging where the remains were located and collecting the remains.

The remains were initially taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort but as of Tuesday this week, Hall said they will be transported to the University of Tennessee.

“…hopefully to at least determine gender,” Hall said.

No additional information was available Tuesday, he said.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and Hall said Kentucky State Police remained on scene all day Friday canvassing the area for additional remains and mapping the area with aerial photography.

Hall said KSP Police Detective Frank Thornberry is overseeing the investigation.
