Virginia Glynn Holtzclaw Cruse, 101, widow of Eugene “Bo” Cruse, of Somerset, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019.

Virginia was born on November 15, 1918, in Crab Orchard, daughter of the late William Oscar and Maude McAllister Holtzclaw. She was a 1936 graduate of Stanford High School. Virginia attended Morehead State Teachers College and was a graduate of Lexington Beauty College. During World War II, she served her country as a “Rosie the Riveter,” working in a California defense plant, a converted swimsuit factory, making parachutes for the troops. Virginia taught school and worked for many years as a beautician, as well.

She was a life-long Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Somerset for 70 years. She enjoyed reading and playing bridge.

Virginia was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Jack Cruse (and Linda), of Louisville; her daughter, Jerry Cruse Brock, of Danville; her daughter-in-law, Jodi Cruse; grandchildren, Jennifer Cruse Partlow (and John), of Columbus, Ohio, David Brock (and Sarah), of Lexington, and Brian Cruse (and Sophia), of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Ryne Partlow, of Nashville, Mark Partlow, of Columbus, and William Brock, of Lexington; special nieces and nephews, Marjorie Shadid, Penny Gaffney, William Peak and William Holtzclaw; four step-grandchildren; and eleven step-great-grandchildren.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Jeffrey Glen Cruse; her son-in-law, John Herbert Brock; her two sisters, Willene Peak and Logan Noland; and her brother, J.B. Holtzclaw.

A celebration of the life of Virginia Glynn Holtzclaw Cruse will be held Thursday, December 5, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company, with Dr. French Harmon officiating. Musical selections will be provided by David Pendley and John Neikirk. Interment will be in Somerset Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 5, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. until time for services, in the funeral home chapel.
