Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Bourbon Chase (train) of many faces came through our community last Friday. A lot of people were involved. The students of Bourbon Chase are becoming very enthused. This has been going on now for years. If this feature hasn’t spread beyond Kentucky, it will.

A thought came to me: Our community and others were once called the “Bible Belt.” We used to be very enthused about our product. Sadly, we are now moving toward being the “Bourbon Belt” as a voice for our community.

Let us look at the effect of bourbon realistically. On the plus side, it brings jobs, promotes businesses and supports good causes. Our food is being cooked with bourbon.

How about the minus side? Death caused by a drunk driver is murder. Alcohol is an uncontrollable product: (1) It will take you farther than you want to go; (2) It will keep you longer than you wanted to stay; and (3) It will cost you more than you wanted to pay. Alcohol in the home is one of our children’s greatest enemies.

Should I say more? Bourbon tries to put a good face on its product and Danville, but sometimes we have to turn to the police report to find its true face and nature.

Some of you count it a joy to be in the “Bourbon Belt.” Don’t count me in that number.

Bourbon totally destroyed one of my uncles. He had so much talent when sober, but when bourbon took over, _____, _____, _____, _____, _____. You fill in the blanks.

One final thought. I have a true friend. His name is “Wisdom.” “Wisdom” told me that the “Bourbon Belt” wasn’t supposed to replace the “Bible Belt.”
