Morgan, Johnson lead LC at E.G. Plummer Invit.

Lady Patriot sophomore Ava Morgan and Patriot eighth-grader Elijah Hoot Johnson posted the Lincoln County varsity’s top times at Saturday’s E.G. Plummer Invitational at Admiral Stadium in Danville.

Morgan was the only Lincoln runner placing in the Top 15 in the varsity events, finishing 14th out of a field of 77 runners in the girls 5K run. She covered the 3.1-mile distance in a time of 23:24.50. Morgan finished two minutes off the winning pace of 21:18.2 set by Ximena Tamariz of Bourbon County. Emma Steff of Warren East finished right on Tamariz’s heels in a time of 21:24.4.

In the boys varsity run, which had 98 runners on the course, Johnson posted a time of 20:37.70 to place 35th overall. It would have taken a sub-20 time to place high in the boys race, with 25 runners all 19 minutes or below. Ryan Maynard of Taylor County ran away with the win with a time of 16:47.8. The second-place runner, Drew Meader of South Laurel, crossed in 17:28.7.

As a team, the Lady Patriot runners placed sixth out of 10 teams with 176 points. Bourbon County won the girls team title with 33 points, Taylor County was second with 67 points and Boyle County was third with 106 points.

The Patriot runners came in 10th out of 11 teams with 223 points. South Laurel won the team title with 40 points, Warren East was the runner-up with 58 points and North Laurel came in third with 85 points.

Middle-school runner Abigail Bastin had another strong performance Saturday morning at Danville. The Lincoln sixth-grader finished as runner-up in the middle school girls 4K, crossing the finish line in 16:06.3. She ran second to Bethany Simpson, a Bourbon County eighth-grader, who crossed in 15:31.9.

The Lincoln girls placed fourth overall out of seven middle school teams with 10 points. Bourbon won the team competition with 24 points, Taylor County was second with 66 points and West Jessamine was third with 69.

Andrew Pence, a seventh-grader, led Lincoln in the boys middle school run with a time of 17:10.2 to place him 16th out of 110 runners. Lincoln had two Top 20 runners in the race, with Ramsey King claiming the 20th spot with a time of 17:45.3.

As a team, Lincoln placed fifth out of 11 with 141 points. Bourbon swept the middle school races, taking the boys title with 31 points. North Laurel finished second overall with 77 points and Anderson County was third with 108.
