Bastin wins MS event at Catbird Classic

The Lincoln County girls claimed three of the Top 10 spots in the middle school race to win the team title at Saturday’s Catbird Classic at London.

Lincoln sixth-grader Abigail Bastin led the team to victory by winning the girls’ 3K race during the cross country meet hosted by North Laurel High School. Bastin was all alone as she crossed the finish line in a time of 12:26.50.

Second-place runner Maggie Bertram of Pulaski County finished almost 30 seconds back of Bastin in a time of 12:54.53.

Olivia Sousis and Alayna Bodner, both seventh-graders, garnered Lincoln’s other two Top 10 spots in a field of 49 runners, with Sousis placing fourth in 14:07.31 and Bodner coming in ninth in 15:19.69.

Lincoln posted a team score of 29 points (lowest scoring team wins), with the top five runners scoring. Rounding out Lincoln’s top five were Kinsley Reed, seventh grade, who placed 16th in 16:58.21, and Jae Cox, eighth grade, who ran 23rd in 17:55.59.

Other runners on course for the Lincoln girls in the race were: Keyera McFarland, 26th, 18:17.91; Shelby Smith, 32nd, 18:42.62; Angelique Coyne, 34th, 18:43.97; and Autumn Sallee, 43rd, 20:34.44.

North Laurel finished second in the middle school girls team event with 43 points and Casey County was third
with 52 points.

In the boys’ middle school event, seventh-grader Andrew Pence had Lincoln’s only Top 15 finish, placing 13th out of 70 runners in 13:01.37.

Ramsey King, an eighth-grader, and Braylan Whitehouse, a sixth-grader, weren’t too far back of Pence, placing 17th and 18th, respectively. King crossed the finish in 13:25.31 and Whitehouse in 13:55.97.

The fourth and fifth scoring runners for the Lincoln boys were Keagan Steele, eighth grade, and Brady Dotson, sixth. Steele placed 25th in 14:41.09 and Dotson was 30th in 14:54.46.

Also on course for the Lincoln boys were Gus Correll, 52nd, 17:41.03, and Anthony Sousis, 60th, 18:26.28.

North Laurel won the middle school boys team title with 59 points. Corbin also had 59 points but finished as runner-up. Pulaski County was third with 84 points and Lincoln was fourth with 95 points.

Lincoln also participated in varsity and elementary events at the Catbird Classic. Those results follow.
