STANFORD — The Lincoln County boys soccer team picked up its third win of the season at home Monday, shutting out visiting South Laurel 4-0 in the second game of a girl/boy doubleheader.

It was a defensive standoff between the two speedy teams, with Lincoln (3-0-1) finally breaking the scoreless tie with just 6:18 to play in the first 40-minute half.

Trey Cummins, a senior, dribbled in front of goal before punching the ball into the net behind South Laurel keeper Tucker Little.

It took less than three minutes for the soccer Patriots to tally again. This time it was Hawk Randall, also a senior, getting into goal. He dribbled the ball all the way up the middle of the field from midfield then worked the ball to the left before powering in the shot.

The score stood at 2-0 at the half.

The night’s scoring would belong to the Lincoln seniors, with Cummins and Randall scoring a goal appiece in the second half to give the soccer Pats the shutout victory.

Carter Tillett was in goal for the soccer Patriots.

Lincoln will be on the road today, traveling to Lexington to play Lexington Christian. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The soccer Patriots will be in Berea on Saturday, taking on host Madison Southern at 5 p.m.
