The Lincoln County Middle School girls basketball teams experienced some ups and downs during the first week of the 2019-20 season, going 4-2 against West Jessamine and Rockcastle County.

The Lincoln seventh- and eighth-grade teams were victorious in both outings, notching a win at home against West Jessamine and on the road at Rockcastle, while the sixth-grade team fell short in both of its games.

Results from the games follow:

West Jessamine at Lincoln

6th Grade
W. Jess. 44, Lincoln 16

West Jessamine jumped on host Lincoln County 29-2 in the first half and never looked back, cruising 44-16 in the sixth-grade game.

West held Lincoln scoreless in the first period while putting up 13 points, then followed with a 16-2 second-quarter scoring edge to set the visitors on course for the rout.

Lincoln, coached by Danny Griffin, hit its high-point effort in the third quarter, scoring nine points to make it 40-11. The Lady Eagles edged West 5-4 in the final period.

Germani Crosby led Lincoln with six points. Samantha Rife scored five points, Bethani Luster had three points and Brooke Prewitt had two.

West Jessamine was led by T. Harrison’s 10 points. K. Mastin followed with eight points, K. Johnson, I. Lewis and M. Waits had six points apiece, O. Crum had five points and A. McLoney had three.

7th Grade
Lincoln 48, W. Jess. 15

Hallie Mullins and Alexia Baldock combined for 27 points to help lead the Lincoln County Middle School seventh-grade team to victory as the team cruised 48-15 over West Jessamine.

Mullins led all scorers with 14 points and Baldock finished right behind her with 13 points.

West Jessamine led 6-5 at the end of the first quarter only to have Lincoln answer with a 15-2 second-quarter scoring run to post a 20-8 halftime lead.

Lincoln put up double digits in the second, third and fourth quarters and outscored West 28-7 in the second half to score the lopsided victory. The Lady Eagles shut out West 12-0 in the final period.

Lincoln, which is coached by Chansler Gilbert, had eight players get in the scoring column in the win. Khloie Halcomb added six points, Taylen Ralston scored five points, Emily Jeffries got four points and Germani Crosby, Gatlynn Lewis and Milah Mullins each had two points.

K. Johnson and Z. Spencer led West with four points apiece. I. Lewis added three points and E. Ferraro and K. Mastin each had two.

8th Grade
Lincoln 42, W. Jess. 4

Talynne Shearer poured in a game-high 17 points to lead the Lincoln County eighth-grade Lady Eagles to a 42-4 victory over visiting West Jessamine.

The host Lady Eagles scored all the points they needed for the win in the first quarter, shutting out West 13-0 in the opening frame.

Lincoln, led by coach Rebecca Shearer, put up double digits in the first three periods to blow the game wide open. The Lady Eagles outscored West 12-2 in the second quarter to post a 25-2 halftime lead then registered another shutout in the third quarter, 13-0, to make it 37-2.

Chelsea Reed contributed eight points in the win, Elly Ann Sims followed with five points, Taylen Ralston and Macey Rice each had four points and Macie Carrier and MaKayla Greer had two points apiece.

E. Ferraro and K. Johnson both had two points for West.

Lincoln at Rockcastle Co.

6th Grade
Rockcastle 37, Lincoln 31

Lincoln’s Germani Crosby and Samantha Rife both had the game-high score of 13 points but it wouldn’t be enough to lead the Lady Eagle sixth-graders to a win at Rockcastle County, with the host team claiming the 37-31 win.

Rockcastle jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first quarter but Lincoln answered with an 11-6 second-quarter scoring run to trim the deficit to 17-15 at the break.

Rockcastle came out in the third quarter and outscored Lincoln 15-8 to push it’s lead to nine points, 32-23. The Lady Eagles outscored Rockcastle in the final period but the 8-5 edge would not be enough to overtake their host.

Shyanne Denny and Brooke Prewitt scored three points and two points, respectively, for Lincoln.

Rockcastle was led by T. King with 11 points and E. McKinney with 10 points. A. King added six points, M. Spivey had four points, K. Barror had three points, A. Falin added two points and S. Halcomb had a free throw toss.

7th Grade
Lincoln 36, Rockcastle 18

The Lincoln County Lady Eagles put up double-digit scoring in the first two periods of the seventh-grade game to help set the team up for a 36-18 win at Rockcastle County.

Lincoln opened with a 10-4 first quarter then followed with a 13-8 scoring edge in the second period to give the Lady Eagles a 23-12 halftime advantage.

Neither team hit double digits in the second half but Lincoln never relinquished its lead, outpointing Rockcastle 8-2 in the third and 5-4 in the fourth for the 36-18 final.

Pacing Lincoln in the win was Alexia Baldock with a game-high 16 points. Hallie Mullins and Taylen Ralston each had eight points and Germani Crosby and Milah Mullins each had two points.

Rockcastle was led by A. King with six points. Mullins and Richards added four points each and Duncan and Hester each had two points.

8th Grade
Lincoln 47, Rockcastle 34

Talynne Shearer and MaKayla Greer both hit double figures to help lead the Lincoln County Middle School eighth-grade team to a 47-34 win at Rockcastle County.

Shearer led all scorers with 15 points and Greer finished with 10 points.

Rockcastle led at the end of both quarterstops in a closely-contested first half, leading 14-10 after the first and clinging to a 19-18 lead at the break.

Lincoln came out in the third quarter and took control of the game, outscoring Rockcastle 15-6 to take a 33-25 lead. The Lady Eagles put up double figures in both the third and fourth quarters, closing on a 14-9 run for the 47-34 final.

Eight Lady Eagles figured in the game scoring, with Alexia Baldock and Chelsea Reed both getting six points, Macie Carrier and Macey Rice scoring three points each and Taylen Ralston and Elly Ann Sims getting two points apiece.

Rockcastle’s leading scorer was C. Cash with 13 points. B. Smith added seven points, A. Dillingham had four points, M. Coffey had three points, H. King, K. Rowe and A. Todd each had two points and R. Smith had one point.

Note: Prior to the West Jessamine and Rockcastle County games, Lincoln played host to the Lady Eagle Classic Aug. 3 and 4.

Four different schools were represented in the tournament, with Lincoln joined on the hardwood by Garrard County Middle School, East Jessamine Middle School and Bardstown St. Joseph Middle School.

All sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade teams from each school played four games.

All three Lincoln teams went 4-0 in the season-opening tourney.
