Virginia Broughton Shelton, 89, of Crab Orchard, passed away Saturday, July 13, at her home. She was the widow of George Shelton who preceded her in death on September 29, 1991.

Virginia was born in Garrard County on January 31, 1930, to the late Rube and Anna Mae (Adams) Broughton. She was a homemaker who spent most summers gardening and canning. She loved spending time with her family and using her hands through quilting, making dolls and pillows. Virginia loved growing flowers, picking the guitar, listening to music and especially loved riding around in the vehicle.

She is survived by her five children, Peggy Ann Martin of Crab Orchard, Lyle Shelton of Georgetown, Caroline and husband Edward McKinney of Eubank, Nelson Shelton and wife Barbara of Crab Orchard, Cindy Lou and husband Donald Wallin of Crab Orchard; sister, Jennifer K. Owens of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brothers, Larry Broughton and wife Kelli of Garrard County and Douglas Broughton and wife Shirley of Garrard County; seven grandchildren, Lowell Martin, Keith Martin, Carla Allen, Clovet Shelton, Amanda McNew, Amber Wallin and Ashley Shelton; six great grandchildren, Sheldon Smith, Osha Carman, Nelson, Kelsey, Kensley and Waylon Martin; three great great grandchildren, Riley Douglas, Gavin and Gage Shelton.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Wilson, Hatti Saylor and Etta Taylor; and a brother, Delbert Broughton.

Pallbearers were Lowell Martin, Tim McNew, Jay Shelton, Paul Shelton, Jr., Clovet Shelton and Terry Allen. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Martin, Donald Wallin and Charles Petrey.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 16, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating.

Private burial was held at the Shelton Family Cemetery.
