STANFORD — The Lincoln County High School baseball season came to an end Saturday after an 11-2 loss to Boyle County in the 45th District Tournament semifinal round.

After falling behind 2-0 in the third inning, Lincoln came back to tie the game with two runs scored in the top of the fifth inning. But Boyle’s high-powered offense answered by blasting out four runs in the bottom of the inning and five more in the fifth to stymie Lincoln’s rally effort and advance to the championship game.

Boyle (17-14) scored the go-ahead run when Cameron Yates, who drew a walk off Lincoln starter Shane Brown, scored on a Jack Briese walk. Karson Thompson, who reached on a walk, scored on an Ethan Carter fielder’s choice to make it a 4-2 ballgame. The Rebel lead was at 6-2 at the end of the at-bat with Reiley Colwick and Carter both scoring on an RBI-single by Colin Carver. Colwick was a courtesy runner for Briese.

Carter Tillett, courtesy runner for Smith, later scored on a two-out single by Kyle Nevels. Mykah Turpin, who drew a walk off Boyle starter Samons, advanced to second on the Nevels hit and third on a Lawson Hon sac out before scoring on a Brown single to left field.

Boyle, which was the two seed in the tourney, got the early lead on Lincoln, the three seed, with one run scored in both the second and third innings. The Rebels, who were the home team on the scoreboard as the higher seed, broke on the scoreboard when Samons singled to plate Carter. Carter walked on. Boyle made it a 2-0 ballgame when Glasscock, who singled on, scored on a Briese sac out.

Samons gave up two runs off four hits in the complete-game win for Boyle. He pitched three strikeouts and two walks.
