LCHS archery team third in IBO 3D Challenge nationals

The Lincoln County High School coed archery team participated in both the 3D and Bullseye competitions at the NASP Eastern Nationals in Louisville over the weekend, bringing home top 10 finishes in both tournaments.

One hundred thirty-three teams competed in the 2019 NASP Eastern National IBO 3D Challenge and Lincoln garnered third place in the competition with 1,717 points, two points behind runner-up Graves County High School and 12 points back of national champion Hartland High School of Michigan.

Lincoln went up against 262 other teams in the Bullseye competition and ranked among the best, scoring 3,416 points to place 10th overall.

McKenzie Settles, an LCHS sophomore, led Lincoln in both competitions, placing seventh out of 941 high school girls in the 3D Challenge with 291 points and eighth out of 2,610 in Bullseye with 295 points. She ranked second in her grade division in 3D and third in Bullseye.

Lincoln had two girls placing in the top 50 in 3D competition, with Emmalee Patterson, a freshman, scoring 283 points to place 48th.

Sophomores Gavin Fowler and Mason Gastineau flip-flopped in leading the Patriot archers. Fowler got Lincoln’s high in the 3D Challenge with 289 points and Gastineau had the next best score of 287. In Bullseye, it was Gastineau leading the Lincoln boys with a 289 while Fowler followed with a 287.

Fowler and Gastineau were the only Patriots placing in the top 50 in either event. Fowler was 33rd overall out of 1,022 archers in 3D and Gastineau was 47th.

Anderson County High School sophomore Henry Thompson swept the boys individual titles, winning the 3D competition with 297 points and the Bullseye with 299 points. Michael Allen of Hartland High (Mich.) was the 3D runner-up and Prestin Tennessen of West DePere High (Wisc.) was the bullseye runner-up.

The girls 3D champion was Emmaline Kleinman, a sophomore at Louisville Eastern, with 295 points and Ashlie Garrison, a Castle High (Ind.) junior, was the Bullseye winner with 298. Elise Leonhart of Meade County High was the 3D runner-up and Maria Heller of Centennial High (Ill.) was the Bullseye runner-up.
