DANVILLE — The Patriot doubles team of Gavin Fowler and Baylor Mattingly got a taste of victory against Boyle County Monday, but the Lincoln teams would fall to their hosts in a match played on the Centre College tennis courts.

Fowler and Mattingly would be the only Lincoln individual or team earning a win in the road match, as the Lincoln boys fell to Boyle 4-1 and the Lincoln girls were shutout 5-0.

Fowler and Mattingly earned their win at the three seed in doubles play, beating Boyle’s three team of Kylin Jia and Luke Jia 8-4.

The Patriots challenged in both the one-seed and two-seed doubles matches. Carter Story and Kade Bandura battled hard at one before falling 6-4, 6-4 to Boyle’s top team of Sam Bischoff and Coleman Clark and Lee Amon and Colin Green picked up six games on Boyle’s Kyle Burkett and Jack Cusato before the Rebel duo secured the 8-6 win.

The Lincoln girls may have come away from the match winless but they did not go down without a fight in four of the five matches played.

The nailbiters in the girls match came at the one seed in singles and in doubles play, with both matches decided by tiebreakers.

Lady Pat Savanna Smith dropped the first set of the top-seeded singles match to Boyle’s Maggie Cequeira 6-3 but rallied to win the second set 6-4 to force the tiebreaker. Cequeira eked out the victory over Smith in the 10-8 tiebreaker.

At the one seed in doubles, Lincoln’s Raelyn Amon and Kaitlynn Wilks put up a strong fight against Boyle’s Lainey Robbins and Whitney Bean. Robbins and Bean pulled out a 6-4 win over Amon and Wilks in the opening set but needed a 7-4 tiebreaker to earn the 7-6 second-set win and take the match.

Alyea Towle, playing at two for Lincoln singles, looked promising in her match with Boyle’s Molly Wise but it would be Wise walking off with the 8-6 win.

The doubles team of Grace Muse and Emily Byrd picked up several games in its two-seeded match with Brianna Ely and Sammy Cusato before falling 8-4.
