STANFORD — The City of Stanford Architectural Review Board (ARB) addressed requests for change on three properties within Stanford’s Historic District at its May 1 meeting.

In April, Fox & Friend Funeral Home and First Southern asked the ARB to review proposed changes to structures or properties at 312 West Main Street, Main Street and Depot Street in downtown Stanford.

The ARB took action on two of the three requests and tabled the third.

The first request was from Fox & Friend Funeral Home to clean, repair, and repaint the trim of the building at 312 West Main. Since the request involved retaining the current white trim color and including the sills and cornices for a more consistent appearance, the request was approved.

The second request was from architect Garlan VanHook on behalf of First Southern to install a painted window sign and restored barber pole to Dale’s Barber Shop on Main Street. The sign is compliant with ARB guidelines, and the now fully-functioning barber pole has been a Main Street fixture for many years. This request was approved.

The third request, also from First Southern, regarded the installation of a public parking sign and a handicapped parking sign on Depot Street. Because the proposed signage could impact the design of directional and handicapped signs within the business district in the future, the Board tabled this request to study it further.

Any Stanford resident has five working days from the publication of this report to file an appeal of these decisions with Stanford’s Planning & Zoning Commission.

The next regular meeting of the ARB is Tuesday, May 14.
