Hazlett, Napier, Randalls win 4×200 relay in record time at Danville

DANVILLE — Seniors Zack Hazlett and Darius Napier and junior running mates Calvin Randall and Carlton Randall sprinted to the finish line in record-setting fashion Tuesday in the 4×200-meter relay at the Danville All-Comers meet at Admiral Stadium.

The Lincoln quartet outraced 11 other teams to the finish line to earn the win, setting a new school record with a time of 1:33.80. The Patriots finished three seconds ahead of the runner-up team from Danville. The Admirals took second in a time of 1:36.27. Boyle County ran third in the event in 1:38.54.

The Patriot win was one of 23 top six finishes for Lincoln track and field teams at the meet. The Lady Patriot and Patriot teams both collected one runner-up finish and combined for five third- and fourth-place efforts, six fifth-place finishes and four sixth-place showings.

The Lincoln girls claimed their runner-up finish in the 3200-meter run, with freshman Mayci Godbey covering the distance in 15:24.38. Danville freshman Kiah Earle earned a decisive win in a time of 13:34.29. Lady Pat Jasmine Steele made it a 2-3 finish for Lincoln by placing third in 16:10.98.

For the Patriots, the runner-up effort came in the 200-meter dash as Carlton Randall turned in a time of 23.67 seconds to finish behind Boyle County’s Chris Duffy. Duffy, a senior, won in 22.80 seconds. Randall’s brother, Calvin, and Hazlett also ran well for Lincoln in the 200, with Calvin placing fifth overall in 24.18 seconds and Hazlett placing sixth in 24.21 seconds.

The Lincoln boys had 12 individuals or teams finishing in the top six of their respective events.

Lincoln’s 4×200 winning team of Hazlett, Napier and Calvin and Carlton Randall finished at the top of the field in the 4×100 relay as well, running three seconds off the lead in the event to place third overall. Lincoln’s time in the race was 46.25 seconds. Boyle County won in 43.28 seconds and Danville ran second in 45.44 seconds.

Carlton Randall would finish the meet with two individual top six efforts, adding a fifth-place showing in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.80 seconds. Napier also got in on the scoring in the event, crossing behind Randall in sixth in 11.91 seconds.

Field competitors JoRon Beasley, Justin Smith and Malcolm Wright all placed fourth Tuesday, with Beasley getting a throw of 37-09.50 in the shot put event, Smith jumping 34-01.00 in triple jump and Wright clearing 5-04.00 in high jump.

Dalyn Pope ran fifth out of a field of 47 athletes in the 400-meter dash. He covered the distance in 55 seconds flat.

The Patriots scored in each of the relays they entered, adding a sixth-place showing in the boys first race of the day, the 4×800-meter relay. The team of Trace Taylor, Jordan Greer, Daniel Pence and Gabe Singleton crossed the finish in a time of 9:54.65.

Earning third-place finishes for the Lady Patriots Tuesday in addition to Steele were the 4×800-meter relay team and Constance Johnson.

The 4×800 relay team of Shayley Reed, McKenzie Settles, Bailey Story and Ava Morgan turned in a time of 10:56.94 in the first race of the day. Mercer County won in a time of 10:50.45 and Boyle County ran second in 10:55.77.

Johnson would score in three individual events in Tuesday’s meet, starting with her third-place finish in the 1600-meter run in a field of 24 runners. She completed the event in 6:04.52. Teammate Alexis Slone finished close behind Johnson in sixth in the 1600, crossing in 6:08.22. Johnson also added fifth-place finishes on and off the track in the 300-meter hurdles and discus. She ran the 300 hurdles in 57.57 seconds and threw 79-04 in discus.

The Lincoln girls were top six in each of the relays they ran, adding a third-place showing in the 4×400, a fourth-place finish in the 4×200 and a fifth in the 4×100. Zaria Napier, Reed, Settles and Story put together a time of 4:41.50 to earn third in the 4×400 and Napier, Settles, Story and Maddy Slone ran fourth in the 4×200 in 1:55.80. The team of Desirae Ellison, Johnson, Napier and M. Slone ran fifth in the 4×100 in 56.84 seconds.

Settles would also add an individual top six finish to her credit Tuesday, placing fourth out of 18 athletes in the 800-meter run. Her time was 2:37.99.
