According to Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney David L. Dalton, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated allegations that on August 18 and September 9, Blakey assaulted his wife to the point she was treated at the hospital on each occasion. Blakey was indicted for those assaults with a jury trial set for February 4, 2019.

Prior to trial, Blakey filed paperwork with the court indicating that he wished to plea guilty. Dalton stated that he agreed to recommend 8 years in prison for the two assaults. Dalton stated that the 8-year sentence was more than the victim wanted and that his plea was out of concern for the vicitm’s safety. Blakey then admitted, under oath, to causing his wife serious physical injury on two occasions. Dalton had previously stated that she suffered a broken nose and orbital during these assaults.

Judge Tapp accepted the plea of guilty and sentenced Blakey to 8 years in prison. Blakey was remanded into custody to begin service of his sentence.

Dalton thanked the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (and Constable Delbert Mitchell) for their efforts in this case, stating that their efforts combined to help bring justice to the victim in this case.
