The 11th Region got the better of the 12th Region over the weekend in boys hardwood action.

The Lincoln County boys, hailing from the 12th Region, took on both Madison Central and Paul Laurence Dunbar from the 11th Region in games at Richmond and Winchester, and the Patriots came up on the wrong side of the scoreboard in both games.

It was a tough 24 hours for the Patriots as they fell 75-47 to host Madison Central on Friday night in Richmond then stumbled in a 78-55 loss to Dunbar in the Tim Short Automotive Classic at George Rogers Clark on Saturday.

Lincoln (12-9) fell behind early in Friday’s loss to Central, with the Indians (10-9) outscoring the Patriots 16-7 in the first quarter.

Central would score 70 of its 75 points in the first three quarters. The Indians used a 20-7 scoring advantage in the second quarter to take a 36-14 halftime lead, then burned the nets for 34 third-quarter points to make it 70-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

Lincoln would outscore Central in the fourth quarter but it was too little, too late.

The Patriots shot just 35.2 percent from the field (19-for-54). They were 3-for-15 from 3-point range and 6-for-13 at the foul line.

The Indians heated up the nets, connecting on 57.4 percent of their shots (27-for-47). They were 5-for-10 from 3 and 16-for-20 at the line.

Elijah Frye and Jaxon Smith led the Patriots’ scoring with 10 points each. Riley Bodner finished with eight points and led Lincoln in a 32-29 win on the glass with nine rebounds.

Isaiah Cozart paced Central with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Quaezhan Charlton followed with 19 points, Braeden Ray had 13 points and Preston Roberts had 10.

The Patriots would fall behind early in Saturday’s loss to Dunbar as well, with the Bulldogs doubling-up Lincoln’s scoring 26-13 in the first quarter.

Lincoln competed with Dunbar over the next two periods, challenging the Bulldogs 16-14 in the second quarter for a 42-27 margin at the half then equaling their offense with 16 points in the third, but Dunbar would close on a 20-12 run to secure the 23-point win.

Blake Smith led Lincoln with 18 points and Jaxon Smith contributed 13 points.

Lincoln shot 47.4 percent in the loss, going 18-for-38 overall, 6-for-13 from 3-point range. The Pats were 13-for-16 at the line.

Dunbar shot 54 percent, going 27-for-50, 8-for-17 from 3. The Bulldogs were 16-for-26 at the foul line.

Dunbar edged Lincoln on the glass 26-25. Elijah Frye and Bryson Yaden led Lincoln on the boards with five rebounds each. Blake Smith and Darius Napier both had four.
