Rogers Explorers is an in-depth three-day, two-night summer camp held on a Kentucky college campus that focuses on cultivating skills in leadership, math, science, technology, and community service.

“The Rogers Explorers program is a one-of-a-kind learning experience. It gives students a chance to discover how fun and exciting math and science can be when applied to the real world,” said Allison Cross, community liaison and youth programs coordinator for The Center. “This is also a great opportunity for middle school students to learn and explore different job opportunities – all while seeing what it takes to live and study on a major college or university campus.”

Rogers Explorers is developed, coordinated, and supervised by The Center for Rural Development and hosted in partnership with Asbury University, Eastern Kentucky University, Lindsey Wilson College, University of the Cumberlands, University of Pikeville, Morehead State University, and Union College.

Students selected for Rogers Explorers attend summer camp on one of the host college campuses, where experts guide them through hands-on assignments, all of which encourage creative thinking, teamwork, and build leadership skills. Explorers actively participate in practical college courses, fine-tune leadership skills, and develop a network of friends and resources throughout Southern and Eastern Kentucky.

Rogers Explorers is open to current eighth-grade middle school students located within The Center’s 45-county primary service area and provided tuition-free. All lodging, meals, and program expenses (with the exception of transportation to and from the program host site) are free to the student.

Applications for the 2019 Rogers Explorers summer camps are available online and may be accessed from The Center’s youth programs website at www.centeryouthprograms.com. The deadline to apply is on March 1, 2019, at 8 a.m. EST.
