The arrival of December means a busy day in Stanford

The Thanksgiving holiday is in the rear view mirror and Black Friday and Cyber Monday shoppers are, no doubt, shopped out.

The Christmas holiday is in full view and the first day of December is packed with yuletide activities to keep people busy.

Santa’s arrival is always a cherished moment for the young and the young at heart and, while he will still hold his spot atop a fire engine at the end of the annual Christmas parade, he will be making an earlier stop to visit with local children to kick off the day’s activities.

The red-suited one will be making a stop at the Lincoln County Extension Office early Saturday morning for breakfast and photos with visitors. He arrives at 9 a.m. and will stay until noon. There is a cost of $5 for the breakfast, which includes a meal of pancakes, sausage and a drink and a photo with Santa. For more information, call (606) 365-2447.

From 2 to 4 p.m., local residents and visitors are invited to a Christmas Open House at Logan’s Fort at the end of Martin Luther King Street. The Fort will be decorated for Christmas with primitive ornaments made by local children adorning trees. Costumed interpreters will be in each cabin and music will be provided by the Danville Dulcimers.

Hot cider and cookies will be served.

Meanwhile, down on Stanford’s Main Street, Wilderness Road Guest Houses will be hosting its own “Pioneer Christmas” themed open house event. The Wilderness Road Guest Houses Open House runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the guest houses on Mill Street and the hotel rooms at the Rooms at St. Asaph.

Visitors to the Wilderness Road Guest Houses Open House will receive a punch card that they can turn in for a FREE bar of goat milk soap at Kentucky Soaps & Such. The card also enters them to win a FREE two night stay at the Rooms at St. Asaph and a $50 gift card to The Bluebird restaurant.

At 5 p.m., the Salvation Army will set up a booth at the Lincoln County Courthouse where they will be handing out FREE hot chocolate.

Activity in the downtown area will be booming around the 5 o’clock hour as parade participants and the Snow Queen, Snow Princess, Countess and Duchess candidates and their escorts prepare to lineup for the annual Christmas parade and residents and visitors flock to Main Street to find their spot to view the 6 p.m. event.

Following the parade, the attention will turn to the steps of the courthouse for the the final event of the eventing, the crowning of the newest royals.

Forecasts are 100 percent for rain Saturday. If the rain forecast stands, the parade will be canceled. Andrea Miller, the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Director, said they will make the call Friday night. If the parade is canceled, the crowning of the Snow Queen and other royals will be moved to LIncoln County High School.
