The curtain has fallen on the Lincoln County 4-H Longshots’ season.

The members of the Longshots Shooting Club joined over 1,100 other participants in the final competition of the season, competing in the State 4-H Shoot in Wilmore and Berea.

The Longshots members participated in disciplines consisting of archery, trap (shotgun), .22 rifle, and .22 pistol. The Longshot members participating in the State 4-H competition were: Trace Bryant, Kathryn Davis, Laura Ferguson, Jordan Hall, John Hughes, Kalyn Peek, Eli Pleasants, Peyton Pleasants, Gabe Singleton, Matthew Sneed, Avery Wesley, and Taylor Wesley.

Kalyn Peek had the high finish for the locals, claiming the runner-up spot in the 9-11 Archery Compound Bare division. More than 100 participants competed in Peek’s age group.

The Longshots had two other members to place in the top 15 at state, with Matthew Sneed and Avery Wesley both finishing high in their respective divisions. Sneed tied for seventh place in the 9-11 Trap competition and Wesley finished 15th in the 9-11 Archery Compound Bare division.

The Longshots Shooting Club is coached by Andy Ferguson, Alan Hubble, Jerry Wesley, Cindy Wesley, Ricky Mullins and Steven Sneed. Teen Leaders of the group are Taylor Wesley and Gabe Singleton.

The group received support from the NRA Foundation in the form of a grant consisting of arrows, ammunition, and other supplies.

“The NRA Foundation has allowed our club to overcome shortages in funds and supplies for several years now and continues to contribute to our success,” Cindy Wesley said. “Fayette Erectors has also been a sponsor of our group during the 2017-2018 season. The club would also like to extend our gratitude to the Cedar Creek Sportsmen’s Club for use of their facilities and ranges for our practices.”
