Slone, Morgan, Johnson, Settles lead LC at Meet of Champions

The Lincoln County High girls varsity cross country team placed ninth out of 25 teams at Saturday’s Meet of Champions in Lexington.

Leading the Lady Patriot runners to a top 10 finish were sophomore McKenzie Settles, freshmen Constance Johnson and Ava Morgan and eighth-grader Alexis Slone, who all merited medals for top 50 finishes out of the field of 242 female runners over the 3.1-mile course at Masterson Station Park.

Johnson posted Lincoln’s top finish overall, placing 37th in a time of 22:05.44. Slone followed her across the finish line in 39th place in 22:07.38. Morgan and Settles placed 43rd and 46th, respectively, with Morgan covering the distance in 22:16.99 while Settles finished in 22:20.69.

Ashland Paul Blazer won the girls varsity division. Conner placed second overall, Franklin County was third, Western Hills ran fourth and Scott County rounded out the top five.

Four hundred forty-four runners took the course for the boys varsity 5K. Lincoln’s boys had three runners to place in the 200’s, led by sophomore Jordan Greer who ran 252nd in 20:43.28. Bradley Adams, also a sophomore, came in in the 277th spot in 21:08.87 while junior Gabe Singleton ran 299th in 21:25.35.

In the boys varsity division, Louisville Trinity was the overall winner out of 35 teams followed by Conner in second place, Covington Catholic in third place, Scott County, fourth, and Frederick Douglass, fifth.
