Lincoln XC opens season in Bourbon Co. Colonel Charge

PARIS — The Lincoln County High School cross country teams opened up their fall season on the road Saturday morning in the Bourbon County Colonel Charge.

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams competed against Bath County, Beechwood, Bracken County, Cooper, Henry Clay, Mason County, Montgomery County, Ryle, Scott, Scott County and Williamstown as well as host Bourbon County in the invitational run on The Farm at Landmarks.

The Lady Patriot varsity placed seventh overall with an average time of 24:58. Lucy Singleton, an LCHS sophomore, paced Lincoln as she finished 15th out of 93 runners with a time of 22:21.95 over the 5K (3.1-mile) course. Ava Morgan, a freshman, turned in the Lincoln girls’ second best time of 23:25.38 to place 26th.

Lady Patriots also finishing ahead of the team’s average in the invitational were Alexis Slone and Constance Johnson. Slone, an eighth-grader, covered the distance in 23:50.88 to place 33rd overall while Johnson, a freshman, finished in 24:57.13 to place 46th.

On the boys’ side, the Patriots finished 12th overall with an average time of 23:04.

Gabe Singleton, a junior at LCHS, led the Patriots as he placed 66th out of 104 runners with a time of 21:02.67. Bradley Adams also beat Lincoln’s average time in the Colonel Charge. The Patriot sophomore placed 68th overall in a time of 21:08.44.

Lincoln’s highest finish in the Colonel Charge came in the middle school division as Abby Bastin ran 12th out of 103 runners in the girls’ 3K. The Lincoln County fifth-grader, one of only three fifth-graders in the race and the only one in the top 20, crossed the finish line in a time of 14:11.73.

The Lincoln middle school girls placed seventh overall in the invitational. Their average time was 17:02.

The Lincoln middle boys had the best team finish for the local cross county runners, placing sixth out of 10 teams with an average time of 14:01.

The Patriots had three runners finishing ahead of the team’s average time, led by Elijah Johnson, who finished in 13:27.78 to place 22nd overall out of 121 runners. Ramsey King finished right behind Johnson in 23rd place in a time of 13:28.80 and Caden Bastin was 31st in 13:52.32.
