LCMS girls basketball teams sweep Bate, Boyle

The Lincoln County Middle School girls basketball teams dominated on the hardwood this past week, sweeping both Bate Middle School and Boyle County Middle School.

The Lady Eagles posted double-digit margin wins in five of the six games played, with a 28-27 edge over Bate Middle in eight-grade action the only close call. Lincoln won by an average of 20.75 points in the other five games.

The wins improved the sixth-grade team to a 6-0 record (6-0 Salt River Conference), the seventh-grade team to 10-0 overall (6-0) and the eighth-grade team to 7-4 overall (4-2).

Game results follow:

Danville Bate at Lincoln

6th Grade
Lincoln 41, Bate 24

Hallie Mullins put up double figures to lead Lincoln in the sixth-grade game, finishing with a game-high 15 points in a 41-24 victory.

Lincoln, led by coach Danny Griffin, led after every quarterstop, posting a 25-11 lead at the break.

Alexia Baldock contributed eight points in the win, Cloe Halcomb added six points, Taylen Ralston and Milah Mullins each had four points and Gaitlin Lewis and Emily Jeffries had two points apiece.

Turner led Danville Bate with eight points, Berry had six points, Miller and Byrd, four points each, and Doneghy, two points.

7th Grade
Lincoln 50, Bate 11

The Lincoln County seventh-grade team romped in its game with Danville Bate, walking away with a 50-11 win.

The seventh-grade Eagles, led by coach Chancellor Gilbert, exploded out to a 24-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Makayla Greer was Lincoln’s high-point player in the road win, pushing in a game-high 14 points. Nine Lady Eagles got in the scorebook, with Maci Rice scoring eight points, Ellie Sims finishing with seven points, Talynne Shearer and Tori Wilburn each getting six points, Chelsa Reed adding three points and Macey Carrier, Reagan McKnight and Milah Mullins each getting two points.

Bate’s scoring leader was Turner with six points. Byrd added three points and Berry had two.

8th Grade
Lincoln 28, Bate 27

Cloe Ralston burned the nets for 18 points to lead the Lincoln County eighth-graders in their 28-27 nailbiter win over Bate Middle School.

Lincoln led after every quarterstop, however, after posting a 14-6 first-quarter lead, the Lady Eagles were held scoreless in the second quarter. Bate outscored Lincoln 6-0 in the period to cut the lead to 14-12.

Lincoln took a 19-16 lead into the fourth quarter and held off Bate in the final frame to claim the win.

Rounding out Lincoln’s scoring were Talynne Shearer with four points and Mercedes Hensley, Makayla Greer and Alexia Baldock all with two points.

For Bate, Tandy hit double figures with 15 points, Terrell added six points, Jones had four and Espinoza, two.

The Lincoln eighth-grade team is coached by Rebecca Shearer.

Boyle Co. at Lincoln

6th Grade
Lincoln 34, Boyle 12

Hallie Mullins and Alexia Baldock combined for 25 points to lead Lincoln County to a 34-12 victory over visiting Boyle County.

Mullins led all scorers with 14 points and Baldock followed with 11 points.

Lincoln never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first and posting a 21-2 advantage at the half.

Taylen Ralston contributed four points in the win, Gaitlin Lewis and Jaylan Underwood each had two points and Cloe Halcomb added a free throw toss.

Young led Boyle with four points and Bugg, Christopher, Metz and Burke each had two.

7th Grade
Lincoln 44, Boyle 12

Just like the sixth-grade team, the Lincoln County seventh-graders shut out Boyle County in the first quarter. The Lady Eagles opened on a 13-0 run and were unstoppable in the 44-12 rout.

Lincoln held Boyle to single digits through three quarters, posting a 23-4 halftime lead and a 33-7 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Hallie Mullins paced Lincoln in the victory with more points than Boyle had as a team, finishing with 14 points. Talynne Shearer, Chelsa Reed, Makayla Greer and Alexia Baldock all contributed six points and Macey Carrier, Milah Mullins and Taylen Ralston had two points apiece.

Tarter and Mayes led Boyle with four points apiece. Bonta added two points and Tompson and Sinkhorn each had one.

8th Grade
Lincoln 36, Boyle 24

Lincoln wrapped up the Boyle tripleheader with a 36-24 win in the eighth-grade game.

The Lady Eagles opened with a 9-2 lead in the first quarter and took an 18-8 advantage into the break.

Cloe Ralston tossed in a game-high 15 points to lead Lincoln in the win. Peyton Boyd followed with seven points, Talynne Shearer and Emily Estes both had six points and Emmie Releford added two points.

Boyle was led by Bugg with nine points. Robbins added six points, Coffee had four points, Tarter, three, and Ethington, two.
