Visitors to the reconstructed Logan’s Fort in Stanford have been enjoying an added treat on their stop in the state’s second oldest settlement this summer.

In addition to seeing the work-in-progress fort and cabins and reading of its history, visitors have witnessed living exhibits as heritage interpreters have led history discussions as part of the monthly summer series “Friday Night at the Fort.”

The “Friday Night at the Fort” summer series is a collaborative effort of the Lincoln County Public Library and the Friends of the Fort Foundation. The series is loosely based on a book discussion group.

In June, Peggy Denham made a short presentation on the life of Lyman Draper and his importance to the history of Logan’s Fort. Then in July, Marion Cooper portrayed Mary Logan Smith, daughter of Benjamin Logan, as she read two letters written to Lyman Draper about her father.

After each presentation, the crowd was encouraged to participate in the discussion.

The “Friday Night at the Fort” series continues tomorrow night, Friday, Aug. 24 at 6 pm. The program will be about the book Westward into Kentucky: The Narrative of Daniel Trabue. Special guest Richard Phelps from Columbia, Kentucky, will portray Daniel Trabue.

The public is invited to attend. Hot dogs and marshmallows are provided – participants are encouraged to bring a side dish and a lawn chair.
