Ponderosa Speedway back in action Friday with annual Big Daddy Classic

JUNCTION CITY — Ponderosa Speedway returns to action on Friday, Aug. 17 as the track presents the 3rd Annual Big Daddy Classic.
The event will feature Super Late Models racing for $3,088 to win, Crate Late Models racing for $1,088 to win, Open Wheel Modifieds racing for $788 to win, along with KDRA Super Stocks, $588 to win, and KDRA Four Cylinders, $488 to win.

The 3rd Annual Big Daddy Classic will feature Super Late Models racing 30 laps for $3,088 to win and $250 to start. The Crate Late Models will also be in competition in a 25-lap main event and Open Wheel Modifieds will join the Big Daddy Classic racing program as well and will race 20 laps in their feature contest Also in competition will be KDRA Super Stocks in a 15-lap feature event and KDRA Four Cylinders in a 15-lap main event. The Super Late Model tire rule will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600; American Racer 48 and 56. Rules for all divisions in competition at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday, Aug. 17 are posted on the track’s website at www.ponderosaspeedway.net.

There is no entry fee in any division. Drivers competing in the Super Late Model, Crate Late Model, Open Wheel Modified, KDRA Super Stock, and KDRA Four Cylinder divisions that do not make the 18-car starting field in their respective divisions will receive $35 tow money. The track uses transponder timing/scoring in all divisions and transponder rental for the event will be $10. In addition, there will be an additional $100 to winner of the KDRA Super Stock feature and KDRA Four Cylinder if either division has 18 or more entries.

In addition, there will be a bicycle giveaway to one child during intermission on Friday, courtesy of Broken Spoke Bicycle Shop in Somerset. All children will receive a ticket upon passing through the general admission gate and that ticket will go into the drawing for the bicycle.

This Big Daddy Classic event is held to honor the memory of former longtime Ponderosa Speedway competitor Paul “Big Daddy” Feistritzer, who competed for many seasons in the Super Late Model division at the track, while also competing in the Crate Late Model division at the track at the end of his driving career prior to his untimely death after losing his battle with cancer. Chris Combs of Isom, KY won the 2017 edition of the Big Daddy Classic, taking the victory over Tripp Gerrald, Victor Lee, James Williamson, and Tommy Bailey.

Activities for the 3rd Annual Big Daddy Classic will see the pit area open at 3:00 p.m., while the general admission area will open at 5:00 p.m. The driver’s meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices for the 3rd Annual Big Daddy Classic on Friday, Aug. 17 in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, while children ages 12 and under will be free. In the pit area, a pit pass for adults will be $35, while children ages 10 and under are free with a signed parent waiver.
