Lions hosting Community Health Fair

Stanford Lions Club will be hosting a “Fun Community Health Fair” on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lincoln County Library in Stanford. You’ve got the kids ready for school so now take some time for yourself. Someone will be there to take your blood pressure, check your glucose levels and more. Receive information about the different services offered in our community. We will even have a craft table for the kids with some healthy snack.

SLCFRC to hold Advisory Council meeting

The South Lincoln County Family Resource Center for Waynesburg and Highland Elementary schools, will hold an Advisory Council meeting at Waynesburg Elementary on Thursday, Aug. 23, at 1 p.m. Meetings are open to all. We are also in need of a Waynesburg and a Highland parent or legal guardian representative to serve on the council for the 2018-2019 school year. The South Lincoln County Family Resource Center will be hosting a six week, PRIME TIME Family Reading Time program at Waynesburg Elementary beginning Sept. 4, 2018.

Prime Time focuses on reading

Prime Time is a unique humanities-based and family-focused program proven to help children succeed academically and bond families around reading. Weekly storytelling, reading and discussion sessions featuring award-winning children’s books are conducted by scholars and storytellers. Families will help their child enjoy reading and sharing ideas, explore topics such as community, fairness and determination, learn more about community and public library resources and plant the seeds for future academic success. Free transportation, child care, snacks/meals, and door prizes! All programs are free and open to the public. You must register by calling Karen Hignite at (606) 365-5815. Deadline to register is Aug. 24.

Stanford Cruise-In

The Stanford Cruise-In will be held Friday, August 17 from 5 – 8:30 p.m., on Main Street in Stanford. This is hosted by the Lincoln Masonic Lodge #60, Blue Knights of KY XI and the Fort Logan F.O.P. Music by Charlie Napier, “D.J. to the Cars”!

Lanigan Family reunion

The Lanigan Family reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Eubank Senior Citizen building. Doors open at 11 a.m. and reunion will run until 5 p.m.

LC Democratic Women to meet

The regular meeting of the Lincoln County Democratic Women will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, at 5 p.m. at the Kentucky Depot Restaurant. Guest speaker will be John Williams, Democratic candidate for sheriff in the November election. The public is invited to attend.

Lincoln County Retired Teachers to meet

Lincoln County Retired Teachers will hold their first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 5:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Depot Restaurant. All retired teachers are invited to hear our speaker and help us welcome our new retirees.

Logan-Whitley DAR to meet Aug. 21; NSDAR dues due

The Logan-Whitley Chapter DAR will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 5:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Depot Restaurant. Please arrive before 5:30 to order your supper. The program will be “New Ideas for DAR.” This is our first meeting of the year and we hope everyone will attend.

NSDAR dues are due and MUST be paid by Aug. 31, 2018. The dues are $60 a year per member. There is also a President General’s Fund with a dues fee of $2.50/year/member and a State Project Fund for $2/year/member. Members may also renew their subscription to American Spirit Magazine for $18 per year. We ask you to please not wait until the last minute to submit your dues check. Please make check payable to Logan-Whitley Chapter NSDAR and mail to Lynda Closson at 3970 Knob Lick Road, Stanford, KY 40484 or bring them to our August meeting.

LC Farmers Market

Lincoln County Farmers Market is now open through October 31 at the Veterans Ball Park (less that 1/4 mile on Hwy 150 going toward Crab Orchard on left) The market will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. or sold out. DYW Committee to hold spaghetti dinner

The 2019 Lincoln County Distinguished Young Women Committee will have a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Sunday, Aug. 19, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Christian Life Center of Stanford Baptist Church. The cost will be $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. The dinner will include spaghetti with meat or marinara sauce, two breadsticks, salad, drink, and homemade desserts. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any committee member or by calling (606) 365-9782 or (606) 365-9882. All proceeds will go toward the scholarship funds that will be awarded during the local program to be held on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Hustonville School Reunion

Hustonville School Reunion will be from noon to ????, on Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. Cost is $12 per person. For more information, call (859) 324-5645.

Healthy Choices Class

Healthy Choices 7 Week Class will be held beginning Friday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Lincoln County Extension Office, 104 Metker Trail. The class is free. Learn how to make healthy, delicious recipes and get tips on budgeting and meal planning. Every participant will get to try a new recipe and receive a free incentive item for coming each month. Blood drive scheduled for Aug. 16

Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is celebrating 50 years of saving Kentucky lives and to commemorate that special anniversary, the blood center is giving away a 2018 Toyota 4Runner to one lucky blood donor. Donors are automatically registered when they donate at area blood drives. The next blood drive scheduled for Lincoln County is Thursday, Aug 16 from 1-6 p.m. in the fellowship room at the Stanford Presbyterian Church, 213 East Main Street. Donors are welcome to schedule an appointment, by calling 800-775-2522, but walk-ins are welcome. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D., and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
