Our Sunday school lesson on July 22 was from Nehemiah. Out of concern and love for his fellow captive citizens and for God’s work that was not being completed, Nehemiah opened his heart and poured out his longings for his country and its people. We, too, should be mindful of pouring out our love for mankind and country to God through prayer!

During the month of July our youth have been very busy. Thirty youth and adults traveled to Panama City Beach, FL for church camp. Twelve youth went to Richmond, KY for the KY Changers in Richmond where they built decks, cleaned and painted. The theme for their summer centered around stretching out of their comfort zones. Caroline Blakeman, Morgan Collins, Anna Story, and Andrea Garcia spoke prior to the sermon about how God had grown them through these experiences.

Bro. Kyle’s message was entitled “What Is the Lord’s Supper?” and was taken from 1 Cor. 11:23-26. Although partaking of the Lord’s Supper is not an elaborate observance; it is a very significant ordinance.

We take the Lord’s Supper for 2 main reasons. The first is because it is a service to remember Jesus and what He did for us. He loves us like no one else does. We want to remember Him as a Savior, Friend, Joy – one who gives purpose to our lives. He is our refuge and strength and without Him we would be nowhere. The Lord’s Supper is a visual message of what Jesus did for us.

The second reason is because it is a special time to draw closer to God. While the Lord’s Supper will not save anyone, it is a time for Christians to come closer to Him and our faith, hope, and love will grow. Following the message, we had the Lord’s Supper – a time to remember our Lord who ALWAYS remembers us!

Pleasant View will host the Waynesburg area churches for a Gospel Sing Sunday, July 29 starting at 6 p.m. A nursery will be provided. Everyone is welcome!

Dates to remember: July 26 – Youth Lake Cumberland trip; July 29-Aug. 1 – Youth Summer Camp; Fri., Aug. 3 – Day trip to William Whitley House with a picnic; Sept. 8 – Senior adult trip to Derby Dinner Theater.
