Elizabeth Brown was chosen by staff members as the Pin It Forwars recipient. The staff picks a camper who “shows how passionate they are, is kind to others, and of course SMILES!” Elizabeth is a perfect example of all 3 attributes! She encourages her stunt group through both the highs and lows. Elizabeth is passionate about cheer and her team. I couldn’t be more proud of her for her leadership and love for the squad!! All Pin It Foward recipents pass on a pin to another cheerleader who they thought possess the same role on their team. Jamica Bryant and Suvannah Stidham were given pins on the last ceremony from Pin It Forward recipients from other cheer teams.

The 2018-19 Lincoln County High School Cheer Patriots had to find a little extra room in the car when loading up for the return trip from the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Camp at the University of Kentucky, as the newest cheer squad brought home five trophies.
The Lincoln squad brought home two first-place trophies, two second-place trophies and also won the camp award – the Tradition Award. The firsts were in Overall Game Day Routine (sideline, cheer and spirit dance) and Sideline Cheer. The seconds were for Game Day Cheer and Rally Routine. Only one Tradition Award was given in each division (junior high, junior varsity and varsity).
The squad also brought home the coveted camp Spirit Stick.
“The squad showed up and showed out at UCA Cheer Camp,” Lincoln cheer coach Amy Bastin said. “The squad also brought home a very prestigious honor with the Tradition Award. This award is given to the team that the UCA staff thought portrayed exceptional leadership skills. The plaque reads, ‘Inspiring Leadership On and Off the Field.’”
The 2018-19 Cheer Patriots are:
Freshmen – Alyssa Miller, Anna Story, Jasmin Ruiz, Jayden Smith, Lizzy Brown, Lizzy Goff, Macy Brummett and Tinsley Bastin.
Sophomores – Alyceson Angeloff, Amber Foster, Camea Centers, Hannah Tinney, Jamica Bryant, Malyha Kyle, Payton McFerron, Sophie Cornett and Chyler Miller, manager.
Juniors – Alex Jones, Amber Foster, Malory Short, Savannah Hammons and Brooklyn Mullins, manager.
“I am so excited for our community to meet this fabulously amazing group of talented, kind, respectful, loving, fearless dream chasers and spirit raisers,” said Bastin. “The squad has deemed themselves ‘hungry.’ Hungry for greatness, hungry to become better than they were the day before.”
While at the camp, Lincoln had two cheerleaders to be selected to the UCA All-American Squad, with Tinsley Bastin and Malory Short chosen during tryouts. During the All-American tryouts, each participant performed their best jump, the Rally Routine Dance and the All-American Cheer (both taught at camp).
Elizabeth Brown was also singled out during camp, as she was presented the Pin It Forward Award. The award recognizes and praises cheerleaders who promote the values fostered through cheerleading, specifically leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness, and motivation.
All Pin It Foward recipents then passed on a pin to another cheerleader who they thought possessed the same role. Lincoln’s Jamica Bryant and Suvannah Stidham were each given pins on the last ceremony from cheerleaders from other cheer teams.
Bastin said that in addition to bringing home camp trophies, the LCHS Cheer Patriots built on their cheer repertoire.
“The squad learned a lot of new material to help cheer our Patriots onto victory,” she said.
The Lincoln cheer squad also enjoyed a little “bonding” experience.
“They also learned a lot about themselves, both individually and as a team. Team bonding was my favorite part of the day,” Bastin said. “We concluded each day with ‘Team Time.’ The girls each had a secret sister that they wrote encouraging notes about something positive they witnessed their sister do that day. We usually remember the ‘not so good’ things ourselves but the girls realized that ‘there is something good even in the something bad’ and a positive attitude is key. I am blessed to be a part of this squad!!”
Fresh off their own camp time, the Lincoln Cheer Patriots will be sharing their knowledge by hosting a Youth Cheer Camp on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The campers will later have the opportunity to cheer with the high school squad at a home football game. The clinic is open to all ages.
