STANFORD — AT&T representative Amy Scharbrough had good news to report at the Lincoln County Fiscal Court meeting Tuesday morning, announcing that AT&T* Fixed Wireless Internet for rural and underserved locations is now available to residents and small businesses in parts of the county, including Crab Orchard, Kings Mountain and Waynesburg.

This rollout, which began in 2017 is now in 18 states, including parts of 51 rural and underserved counties of Kentucky. The company now offers Fixed Wireless Internet to over 440,000 locations across 18 states with plans to provide access to over 1.1 million locations by the end of 2020.

“My colleagues and I in the legislature have worked hard to create an environment that encourages the deployment of high-speed connectivity, particularly in rural Kentucky, so I am pleased to see this innovative service coming to Lincoln County,” said State Representative David Meade.

“It’s an exciting day to see yet another effort being made to connect our communities,” said Judge Executive Jim Adams. “Rural businesses and residents are making their voices heard, and it is very encouraging to see both the government and private industry working together to address the connectivity needs in our backyard.”

Fixed Wireless Internet service delivers an internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on a customer’s home or business. This is an efficient way to deliver high-quality, high-speed internet to customers living in underserved rural areas. The towers in Lincoln County are located in Stanford on KY Hwy 1247, Crab Orchard and Waynesburg.

The towers used to provide this service are connected to AT&T’s network using AT&T fiber optics. AT&T has more than 980,000 strand miles of AT&T fiber optics covering Kentucky, which enables the company to offer a wide variety of products and services delivering the high-speed connectivity Kentucky businesses and residents need.

In addition to Kentucky, AT&T Fixed Wireless Internet is available to residents and businesses in parts of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
