The Smithsonian Institution’s traveling Hometown Teams exhibit is nearing its end, with July 7 the last day for the display at the Lincoln County Public Library.

The exhibit is open daily during library hours through July 7, and there are several special events still on the calendar.

Among those special events is tonight’s offering, the Kentucky Derby Museum Program. This program, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m. in Community Room 1, takes visitors through every stage of a thoroughbred’s life, from birth to the first Saturday in May. Visitors will learn about all the great history of the race dating back to the inaugural running in 1875 to our most recent Kentucky Derby champion and experience all the traditions that have transformed the race into what it is today.

Registration is required for this program. Please call the library at 606-365-7513. The program for kids starts at 5 p.m. and the program for adults starts at 6 p.m.

On Monday, June 25, the topic for the 4th Monday Book Discussion Group is the book The Soul of a Butterfly. The book is the autobiography of Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., a former heavyweight boxer who was a three time World Heavyweight Champion and is considered the greatest heavyweight of all time.

The book discussion, which is held in Community Room 3, starts at 5 p.m.

The Kentucky Shakespeare Co. will handle the presentation of the library’s Tuesday, June 26, program in Community Room 1. During the program, which starts at 6 p.m. teens and tweens will learn how to safely perform a staged fight using hand-to-hand combat and sword play.

Community Room 1 will be the place to be from 11 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, June 27, as the library hosts Artworks.

Those participating in the program will be making a sports button. They can bring their own picture copied onto copy paper – photo paper is too thick. Re-size the picture to 2-5/8 inches, They can also use a design that we provide or create a design of their own using a circle and pens/pencils that we provide.

The Hometown Teams special events will end with the presentation of the movie, Field of Dreams, on Thursday, June 28. The movie wil be shown in Community Room 1 starting at 5 p.m. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.
