Sudell (Tarkington) Schmitt, 90

Sudell (Tarkington) Schmitt, 90, a previous resident of Bristol, Conn., and resident of Boynton Beach, Fla., passed on June 1, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Fairfield, Conn., surrounded by her daughters.

Born December 29, 1927, in Stanford, Sue was a daughter of the late James Shuttleworth and Maude (Stone) Tarkington. She was the wife of the late Philip Herold Schmitt, they were married July 26, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio. Sue was an avid golfer and tennis player but known more in her later years as an outstanding ballroom dancer.

She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Herold Schmitt; and sister, Joan Schrampfer Couch.

Survivors include her sister, Dean Mossman Linderman and her four daughters and sons-in-laws, Deborah and Gregory Shillo of Bloomfield, Conn., Elizabeth and John Nyquist of Colleyville, Texas, Cynthia and Dr. Ted Sprinkle Jr. of Fairfield, Conn., and Phyllis and Scott Hartzell of Westbrook, Conn; her nine grandchildren, Katherine and Nicholas Beardsley, Bronya Shillo, John Philip and Taylor Nyquist, Caitlyn and Cole Sprinkle, Alex, Philip and Olivia Hartzell; great-granddaughter, Gunnison Beardsley; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and interment will be at St. Josephs Cemetery, Bristol, Conn.
