The high school football landscape will have a new look beginning in 2019 with the new football alignment confirmed by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association for 2019-22.

Lincoln County is one of those teams affected by the realignment as the Patriots take a step down from Class 5A to Class 4A. With the new alignment, Lincoln’s longtime district rivalry with Pulaski County, Southwestern and South Laurel ends.

The Patriots’ new district rivals in Class 4A, District 7 will be Corbin, Knox Central and Wayne County.

The new alignment affects all of the area schools. Below are the area changes:

Mercer County – Like Lincoln County, Mercer moves down a class, dropping from Class 4A to Class 3A. The Titans will be in District 4 with Louisville Christian Academy, DeSales, Henry County and Western Hills.

Casey County – The Rebels remain in Class 3A, but move from District 8 to District 2. The Rebels are in the district with Adair County, Glasgow, Hart County and Taylor County.

Garrard County – Garrard also stays in Class 3A. The Lions will move districts, though, going from District 4 to District 5. Garrard joins Bell County, Estill County, McCreary Central and Rockcastle County in District 5.

Danville – Still in Class 2A, Danville moves from District 7 to District 4, with only one change in district opponents. Washington County replaces Middlesboro. The other district teams are Somerset and Lexington Christian Academy.

Boyle County – Boyle is the only local team moving up a class, moving from Class 3A to Class 4A. The Rebels will be in District 5 with Anderson County, Bourbon County and Lexington Catholic.
