The Lincoln County High School boys’ archery team fared well in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Archery Championships as the locals placed fourth out of 22 teams Thursday at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington. 

The Lincoln boys finished with 1,998 points. Bullitt Central High School won the boys’ team title with a score of 2,030 and Madison Central High School, the 2017 champion, took the runner-up spot with a score of 2,023. Wolfe County High School finished just ahead of Lincoln in third place with a score of 2,001.

Senior Roby Mullins posted the high score for Lincoln’s 12-man team, shooting a 292 to place him in sixth-place overall out of 273 archers. The score ranked him second in his grade division.

A total of five Patriot archers, including Mullins, scored Top 10 finishes in their grade division at the state competition. 

Garrett Robertson, Lincoln’s second-best scorer at state, ranked sixth in the 10th Grade Boys division with a score of 289. Gavin Fowler, an LCHS freshman who finished behind Robertson with a 288, also earned sixth-place in his division. Leevi Warren and Nathan Parrett, both seventh-graders, garnered Top 10 finishes in their division, with Warren taking fifth overall with a score of 278 and Parrett, ninth, with a score of 272.

Rounding out the Lincoln boys’ state scoring were: Jacob Holtzclaw, 287; James Shaddox, 284; Jacob Summers, 280; Levi Henderson, 277; Jimmy Deatherage, 265; Mason Gastineau, 265; and Logan Martin, 250. 

With only two girls’ shooting during the state competition, Lincoln County did not post a team score. However, the two girls taking aim at the tourney, Emily Patterson and McKenzie Settles, both scored well in their grade divisions and Patterson, an eighth-grader, had Lincoln’s best overall finish of the day by placing fourth in the girls’ division out of 294 archers with a score of 292.

Patterson’s score put her at the top of the field in her grade division and the overall middle school division. She was first out of 23 in her grade and first out of 36 in the middle school shoot. 

Settles, a freshman, scored a 289 in the tournament to place 16th overall. She was fifth in her grade division and 13th out of 258 for the high school division.
