WAYNESBURG — A domestic violence incident caused a Lincoln County elementary school to be placed under a brief lockdown Friday.

Bluegrass 911 dispatchers were informed last Friday morning that a female suspect involved in a domestic violence situation at a residence on Parker Road had left the home and was believed to be traveling to Waynesburg Elementary School, where her daughter attends.

It was reported that the woman, later identified as 27-year-old Tiffany Wireman, allegedly had weapons and was under the influence of a substance, according to Stanford Police Chief Zach Middleton.

“During this incident, Waynesburg Elementary was placed under a brief lockdown,” a press release from Middleton states. “No students or staff were injured or in any imminent danger, this lockdown was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of our children, teachers and parents.”

According to the release, Stanford Police, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln County District 3 Constable Delbert Mitchell responded to secure the school and locate Wireman. Wireman does not have custody of her daughter, police said.

“As the female entered the school’s parking lot, officers quickly intervened and detained her without incident before she could reach the school,” the press release states. “Upon search of her person and vehicle, no weapons were recovered and it was determined there was no threat or danger to the school.”

Wireman was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault in connection with the domestic violence incident on Parker Road.

According to the Lincoln County Regional Jail’s online records, Wireman has since been released from custody.

Lincoln County Superintendent Michael Rowe also issued a press release Friday to inform parents and stakeholders across the district of the lockdown.

“Restrooms and hallways were cleared, all doors were locked, there was an accounting for all students, and no one was allowed to enter or exit the building. Waynesburg Elementary School remained in lockdown until law enforcement communicated that a suspect was taken into custody and it was safe to resume normal school operations,” the press release states. “At no time did the suspect enter the building.”
