12th Region Tennis: Smith/Towle, Bandura/Story among top tourney seeds

For most of the spring sports teams at Lincoln County High School, the regular season still has two to three weeks to go before post-season play begins. The same can not be said for the Lady Patriot and Patriot tennis teams as their post-season starts now.

Both Lincoln teams will hit the courts at Centre College, Boyle County High School and Danville High School Friday in the 12th Region Tennis Tournament.

Lincoln can boast of two seeded teams in this year’s regional tourney, with one in both the girls and boys divisions. The Lady Patriots’ top team of Savanna Smith and Alyea Towle was ranked No. 8 in girls doubles at region during Monday’s seeding meeting. For the Patriots, Kade Bandura and Carter Story earned a regional seed as well, by being ranked No. 8 in boys doubles.

Smith and Towle will open tourney play Friday against the team of Kristen Lane and Sydney Arnold of Garrard County. Bandura and Story will take on the team of Asher Fitch and Chase Bricken of West Jessamine in their first-round match.

Lincoln will have a total of 12 athletes in action across the three courts at regionals. Grace Muse and Emily Byrd will be playing singles for the Lincoln girls Friday while Raelyn Amon and Kaitlynn Wilks compete in doubles. The Patriots will have Baylor Mattingly and Gavin Fowler on court for singles action and Lee Amon and Collin Green will represent LCHS in doubles.

If there was a bad draw for Lincoln in the opening round, it would go to Byrd. The Lady Pat netter drew the tourney’s top seed, Mia Kendrick of Boyle County, for her first match.

Muse’s first-round opponent is Natalie Hampton of Pulaski County and Amon and Wilks will square off against Rachel Carmack and Robin Carmack of Madison Southern.

Mattingly will open his region play in a match with Ryan Allen of Mercer County and Fowler’s first match will be against Chase Frisby of Boyle County. In boys doubles, Amon and Green will face a seeded team in their opening match, taking on the No. 5 team of Kyle Skeese and Sam Fairchild of Wayne County.
