Lady Pat 3200, 800 relay teams take first in PCI Track Classic

SOMERSET — The Lincoln County High School girls and boys track and field teams made their presence known in Friday’s Randy Elmore PCI Track Classic at Pulaski County High School, with the Lady Patriots winning two races and the teams combining for 10 Top 5 finishes in the large meet.

Lady Patriot freshmen Lucy Singleton and McKenzie Settles and eighth-graders Constance Johnson and Ava Morgan finished at the head of the pack in the 3200-meter relay, coming in eight seconds ahead of the runner-up team. The Lincoln quartet crossed in a time of 10:33.79. Host Pulaski County came across in second place in 10:41.04. 

Singleton teamed up with seniors Tate Newcomb and Courtney Snow and eighth-grader Maddy Slone to capture first in the 800-meter relay. Lincoln edged out Williamsburg at the finish for the win, covering the distance in 1:55.73 while Williamsburg posted a time of 1:58.06.

Those wins accounted for just two of Lincoln’s 10 Top 5 finishes. The Lady Patriots added five other finishes of fifth or better and the Patriots had three total.

The Lady Patriots finished third in three different events – 400-meter relay, 1600-meter relay, 800-meter dash. Singleton, Newcomb, Snow and Slone ran third in the 400 relay in 56.03 seconds, Meredith Dennis, Snow, Morgan and Settles were timed at 4:44.12 to take third in the 1600, then Singleton clinched third on her own in the 800-meter dash, finishing in 2:32.29.
Settles followed Singleton across the finish in the 800-meter dash, placing fourth in a time of 2:38.39. 

Alexa Wesley rounded out the Lady Patriots’ Top 5 finish roll by placing fifth in the high jump field event. She cleared a height of 4-04.00.

Darius Napier had the Patriots’ high finish for the meet, placing fourth in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Napier, a junior, sprinted to the finish in the 100 in 11.81 seconds and crossed in the 200 in 24.75 seconds.

Napier was also in on the Patriots’ other Top 5 finish, teaming up with junior Dalyn Pope, freshman Gavin Skipper and senior Brady Patterson for the 400-meter relay. The Lincoln runners finished fifth in the event in 49.04 seconds.

A total of 30 girls and boys teams competed in the PCI Track Classic. The Lincoln girls placed sixth overall out of 14 teams with 49 points. Rockcastle County won the girls team title with 161 points and host Pulaski was runner-up with 114.50 points. The Lincoln boys placed 12th out of 16 teams with 16 points. East Jessamine took the boys team title with 117 points and North Laurel was second with 86.

Lincoln’s next scheduled meet is the Danville All-Comers on April 10.
