STANFORD —  The Lincoln County High School girls and boys tennis teams split their opening match of the season Thursday at the Baughman Bros. Courts on the LCHS campus.

The Lady Patriots emerged as one of the victors in the split, taking down visiting Southwestern 7-2, but it was the Warriors claiming victory in the boys match with a 6-3 win over the Patriots.

“Today was a great start on the season,” Lincoln coach Allen Lewis said.

The Lady Patriots did not fare too well in the one- and two-seed matches, with the Lady Warriors coming out on top, but Lincoln took control by taking the third- through sixth-seeded matches, then followed with a sweep in doubles to earn the “W.”

Raelyn Amon ignited Lincoln’s comeback effort by beating Southwestern’s Ashley Cole 6-4 at the three seed. Kaitlynn Wilks followed with a 6-2 win over Paige Daniels at four, Grace Muse topped Sage McBride 6-3 at five and Abby Hale capped singles’ play with a 6-3 win over Shelby Watson at six.

Amon and Wilks teamed up at the one seed for Lincoln in doubles and handed Southwestern’s Munsey and Wilson a 6-4 defeat. Smith and Muse blanked Selena Martinez and Natalie Morrow 6-0 at two and Adie Hogue and Chandler Otto made it a doubles sweep with a 6-2 win over Cole and Bethany Jordan at three.

The Lincoln boys’ one- and three-seeded players, Carter Story and Lee Amon, notched singles wins against Southwestern  and, in doubles, Amon teamed up with Colin Green for a victory.

Story defeated Southwestern’s Josh Carey 8-6 at one in singles and Amon topped Jon Long 6-1 at three. Amon and Green gave up four games to Cameron Campbell and Daniel Walrod at the two seed in doubles before pulling out the 6-4 win.
