Stanford was the first in the state to pass a temporary proclamation last year to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day, along with the federal Columbus Day holiday.

Lexington followed suit and passed a similar proclamation in October last year.

The motion to make Indigenous Peoples’ Day a permanent holiday in Stanford carried with a 5-1 vote last Thursday.
