Eagles advance in SRC tourney

All three of Lincoln County Middle School’s boys basketball teams made it through the first round of the Salt River Conference Postseason Tournament.

Both the sixth-grade and seventh-grade Eagles were the top seed in their division and both advanced with wins over the 8 seed, with the sixth-grade topping Mercer Middle and the seventh-grade beating West Jessamine Middle. The Lincoln eighth-grade team was the 2 seed going into its tourney and the team defeated Bondurant Middle, the 7 seed.

Lincoln was at home for all three first-round games, with the seventh-grade team the first to post a win.

7th Grade SRC
Lincoln 43, West Jess. 35

Lincoln held off a second-half rally by West Jessamine to claim a 43-35 win in the first round of the Salt River Conference Tournament played at LCMS.

West, after trailing through the first half, surged in the third quarter, using a 12-5 scoring edge to nose ahead of Lincoln 31-28.

But Lincoln would not be denied the “W.” The Eagles, who led 16-9 after one and 23-19 at the half, came out in the final frame and outpointed West 15-4 to secure the 43-35 win.

Layne Lark led Lincoln in the win with 11 points and nine rebounds. Tramane Alcorn finished with nine points, three assists and five steals, Zack Moore had eight points, seven rebounds and three assists, Colton Ralston got seven points, Trevor Miracle had four, Jackson Sims, three, and Jansen McAninch one.

6th Grade
Lincoln 57, Mercer 12

The Lincoln sixth-grade basketball team dominated in its first-round game in the Salt River Conference Tournament, exploding out to a 23-4 first-quarter lead and never looking back in a 57-12 rout of Merceer County Middle School.

The Eagles outscored Mercer 17-8 in the second quarter to post a 40-12 halftime lead.
Mercer did not score a point in the second half as Lincoln shut out its opponent 17-0.

Connor Davis scored 11 points to lead Lincoln and Sawyer Horton followed right behind in double figures with 10 points. Davis also had four assists and five steals. Horton added six rebounds.
Seth Horton contributed nine points and seven rebounds for the Eagles, Jacob Moore had eight points and four steals, Jackson Withrow had six points, Elan Lane, five, Breydon Hatter, J.C. Bryant and Skyler Thompson each had two and Blade Nuckols and Landon Day had one point apiece. Nuckols also had four assists.

8th Grade
Lincoln 54, Bondurant 39

Lincoln County’s eighth-graders also established control early in their Salt River Conference Tournament opener, jumping on Bondurant Middle 21-2 in the first quarter en route to a 54-39 victory.

Lincoln led 33-13 at the break.

Bondurant did edge Lincoln in scoring in the second half, outpointing the Eagles 12-11 in the third and 14-10 in the fourth before Lincoln moved on for the win.

Lincoln had two double-digit scorers in the win, with Clayton Davis leading the way with 17 points along with three steals. Colin Green pushed in 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Cruise Wilson finished with eight points, five assists and two blocks, Skyler Quinn had eight points, seven assists and three steals, Ryan York had four points, Tramane Alcorn had two points and seven rebounds and Lawson Hon and Colton Ralston each had two points.
