Inmates shouldn’t have been out in cold

Dear Editor,

Today, Jan. 4, 2018, school was called off due to extreme temperatures. When I was coming down Main Street at 9:52 a.m., I witnessed them bringing the prisoners from the courthouse back to the jail. They were chained together, their feet were chained so they had to take small steps. They were dressed in short sleeve orange jump suits.

I totally understand that they need to pay for their crimes but it was 9 degrees. To me, that is torture. Why couldn’t they give them jackets or teleconference the judge from the jail? In these conditions, a person can get frostbite within 15 minutes. I’m sure no one wants a jail full of sick inmates.
