The Lincoln County Middle School boys basketball teams picked up some hardwood hardware over the weekend, with both the sixth-grade and seventh-grade Eagles finishing as runners-up in the 12th Region Tournament at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington.

The Eagle sixth-graders, led by coach Steve Ralston, saw the most action in the tournament, playing five games to claim their runner-up trophy, while the seventh-grade team, led by coach Carl-Lewis Cummins, competed in four games overall.

The sixth-grade Eagles split in Pool Play, winning their opener 42-21 over Danville Bate before dropping a 50-43 game to Northern Pulaski. They would rebound from the loss, though, defeating Southern Pulaski 31-26 in the quarterfinals of the single elimination tourney. 

Lincoln (21-6) punched its ticket to the finals by edging past Rockcastle County 46-45 in the semifinal round to set up a rematch with Northern Pulaski. Unfortunately for Lincoln, the outcome would be the same, with Northern defeating Lincoln for the tourney title, 49-20.

Lincoln’s seventh-grade team did not get the tourney off to a good start, bowing to Danville Bate 54-53 in the first Pool Play game. However, the Eagles redeemed themselves in the second game, defeating Southern Pulaski 44-35. 

The Eagles (23-3) notched another win over Bate Middle in the semifinal round of the tourney, winning 62-57 to advance to the finals against Southern Middle. Lincoln defeated Southern in Pool Play, but it was Southern earning the win in the title game, beating Lincoln 42-34.

The Lincoln eighth-grade team, led by coach Eric Ralston, also competed in the regional tourney but was eliminated by Northern Pulaski 51-36 in the semifinal round. The eighth-graders (19-6) were 0-2 in Pool Play, falling 60-47 to Rockcastle and 35-34 to Northern Pulaski.
