Lady Pats win on road; beat Anderson

The Lincoln County girls basketball team kicked off 2018 with a 66-56 road win over Anderson County on Tuesday night. 

The Lady Patriots, who improve to 10-3, led by as many as 15 points in the win and were paced by the junior trio of Emma King, Kaitlynn Wilks and Maddy Boyle, who combined for 58 points. King led the way with a game-high 22 points, Wilks followed with 19 points and Boyle rounded out the trio with 17 points.

Lincoln trailed 16-12 at the end of the first quarter but rebounded in the second quarter, using a 23-17 scoring advantage to nose ahead 35-33 at the half. Wilks had eight points in the second period, King, who had eight points in the first frame, pushed in seven points in the second and Boyle had six.

Lincoln would outscore Anderson 42-28 over the second and third quarters, including a 16-4 run in the third quarter. Boyle scored 11 of her 17 points in the third quarter, knocking down three of her four 3-pointers in the period to help Lincoln take a 54-44 lead going into the final frame. 

The final margin would remain at 10 as both teams scored 12 points in the fourth quarter. Wilks scored eight of Lincoln’s 12 points and King drained the last of her three 3’s and added a free throw toss.

Anderson would close within 56-53 in the fourth quarter before Lincoln put the game away.

Jaclynn Ruble scored consistently throughout the game to lead Anderson with 20 points. Lauren Boblitt also finished in double digits with 12 points. Tayln Harley just missed double figures, finishing with nine points.
