Flooding strands motorists in Lincoln County

STANFORD — Flooding in Lincoln County last week stranded two motorists and rendered several roads impassable.
According to the Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency, multiple roads were impacted by flooding that occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 23, but roads had significantly improved by that afternoon.
The first of two rescue operations was on Goshen Road, about one mile northeast of Stanford, where a motorist had attempted to drive through standing water and driven off of the roadway.
“Fire Department personnel were able to get the vehicle back on the roadway in 18 (inches) of water,” a report from Lincoln County EMA states.

A second motorist located on Frog Branch Road, about six miles west of Stanford, was rescued by fire department personnel, as well, after her vehicle stalled in standing water. The female was removed to safety, according to the EMA report.
Lincoln County received about three inches of precipitation by noon Dec. 23, according to Kentucky Mesonet data.
The flooding closed about 15 roads in Lincoln County, leaving some debris behind.
