STANFORD — The Lincoln County Lady Patriot basketball team rolled to its second straight win Friday night, cruising past visiting Rockcastle County.

Emma King, Kaitlynn Wilks and Maddy Boyle combined for 44 points in the win, more points than Rockcastle scored as a team as the Lady Patriots dominated 70-30 in the first game of a girl/boy doubleheader at LCHS.

King led all scorers with 18 points, Wilks followed with 14 points and Boyle had 12 points in the win.

Lincoln (2-0) opened on a 10-0 run and Rockcastle (0-2) never threatened.

“They came out ready to play tonight,” Lincoln coach Cassandra McWhorter said. “You always worry because they are kids, but they are focused, they are ready. And I know they’ve worked hard and prepared in the right way and it’s shown in our first two games.”

King and Wilks helped Lincoln establish control of the game in the first quarter by scoring the first 10 points of the game. King drained two 3-pointers and Wilks went inside for two buckets for the 10-0 advantage.

Casey Coleman, who led the Lady Rockets with 11 points, finally interrupted the Lady Patriot run with 3:18 left in the first quarter, driving inside for Rockcastle’s first points.

That would be as close as Rockcastle would get, with Lincoln finishing out the first on a 9-3 run. Boyle scored six of the nine points off two field goals and two free throws. Wilks rounded out the quarter scoring with a 3-pointer as Lincoln pushed its lead to 19-5.

The Lady Patriots, who shot 44 percent from the field (25-for-57), further cushioned their lead in the second quarter by outpointing the Lady Rockets 22-10 to post a 41-15 halftime lead. Lincoln opened the period on a 9-0 run off two Boyle baskets, a Zaria Napier bucket and a Trinity Shearer 3-pointer.

The Lady Rockets, who finished at an icy 24 percent from the field (11-for-45), missed their first seven shot attempts of the second quarter and turned the ball over three times. Emma Bullens got Rockcastle’s first shot to fall at the 4:21 mark.

Lincoln led 59-28 going into the fourth quarter, then outscored Rockcastle 11-2 in a shortened fourth quarter after invoking the running clock for the second straight game.

“It was exciting to see how we came out tonight,” McWhorter said. “Now, we’ve just got to keep them even keel and making sure they are mentally ready every night.”

Lincoln had 28 rebounds in the game, led by Shearer with eight boards. Napier had six rebounds.

The Lady Patriots were 14-for-18 at the foul line while the Lady Rockets were just 7-for-9.

Rockcastle had 21 turnovers compared to just eight for Lincoln.
